2 Year Old Class

This program includes activities that encourage socialization skills.  We have activities set up on tables such as painting, arts and crafts, play dough, puzzles, Duplos, etc.  Circle Time includes singing, reading time, and festivities appropriate in preparation for a Jewish holiday or other celebration.  This class also has their own play yard, with outside play, painting, and sensory activities, in which large muscle development and social skills may be exercised.

At this age, the children are making a bridge between your constant companionship to becoming independent enough to enter Preschool. Separation is made easier if parents allow children to feel safe with their teachers, so we recommend that while parents are in the class with their child they sit on the side with a book or magazine and allow the teachers to take care of the needs of the child.  Since each child separates differently, parents and teachers will work together to ensure a smooth transition process.

At your invitation, your child’s teacher will also come to your home at a mutually convenient time.  The teachers will spend 10-15 minutes playing with your child, letting him/her take the teacher for a tour of their home thus beginning the basis of a strong and nurturing teacher-student bond.  This helps bridge the gap between home and school and will help ease the child into feeling comfortable and safe with his/her teachers.

Food is also familiar and comforting for children.  In the morning, to help ease separation, teachers prepare a breakfast center.  The children make pancakes, eggs, cereal and fruit, Matzah brie, etc.

By two years of age, some children have learned to use the toilet.  However, because maturation comes later for many youngsters, we expect most children to be wearing diapers.  With the positive example of others in the class, your child will likely want to “graduate” to big underwear sometime during the year.

Our teachers work together with the parents to help with “toilet learning” and make the process fun and exciting for the children, with stickers and “hoorays”!

Sample Day

Daily Schedules vary a bit, but generally, a day proceeds as follows:

9:00 –   9:30  Free exploration w/ Manipulative, Puzzles, Play Dough, Dramatic Play, Blocks, Free Art, Snack Time, Clean Up

9:30 – 10:00 Circle Time with Story Time and Music & Movement.

10:00 – 10:40 Snack Time, Group Art Activities.

10:40 – 11:30 Outside Play

11:30 – 12:00 Lunch

12:00 – 12:30 Free Play, Story Time, Puppet Shows, Dismissal for Half Day’ers

12:45 –  2:30 Rest Time for Full Day’ers

2:30 –  3:00 Wake Up/Snack/ Pick Up Outside
